I found out yesterday that the probability that I'd be teaching a gifted class next year is more likely. My AP indicated that she has me penciled in for gifted algebra.
I'm excited about this - note that the word gifted is used instead of honors - these are not kids that are going to succeed on their own. They still have a history of getting in trouble. The difference is that they've tested well on tests for inquisitiveness, logic, and problem solving. It's going to be my job to channel that into something good, and I'm excited about it.
The thing is, I've been teaching 7th grade standards for 4 years now. Even this 8th grade class I've got now is covering 7th grade standards. It's going to be a long summer getting a feel for what I need to do next year.
