I'll have to check out EazyDraw.

I thought I might have met a fellow Omnigraffle fan. You might want to check it out. Free version will do 20 objects. Oh so pretty, easy and quick. Very mac.

Thank you!

I use iWork Pages, but before that I used to use EazyDraw. I don't think, however, that the software is what makes a difference - it's having an idea of what you want it to look like, and then using the software to get that onto the paper.

I'll confess that I stole a lot of the good design stuff from dan. The bad stuff is all my fault. (Fer instance, I think the main title text needs to be a titch smaller, and the subtitle text a bit larger.)

Curious what you're using to make the sheets. They look really nice.

A couple of fixes after putting it in action:

1) My calculators are 8 digit calculators. the last multiplying step overflows. Fortunately, I was saved by #2 and a bad copy center.

2) My margins are too small - the arrows on the left side and the first circle at the top were obliterated in the copy process. The circle disappearing was lucky, because the problem worked better with only 7. Having them draw in the arrows is a pain in the butt.

3) The last step really needs more reflection - so they I gave them a prompt: "How does the exponent relate to how the decimal moves? Why?" to finish on the back of the page.

Good news is that it came out right on the money, time wise.

So much prettier than my lesson on scientific notation. Let us know how it goes.
